Random musings

When I was young, I flew a lot. The only time I ever got scared was during landings, because I did not like the sensation of sinking lower and lower. Then, one flight, a nice gentleman sitting next to me informed me that I had nothing to worry about, because if a problem were to occur on an airplane, it was 5 times as likely to occur during takeoff than landing.

Now, I am terrified of both takeoffs and landings.

  1. I started to become *more* afraid of flying at business school, too, even though I was flying more. Not totally sure what that's about.

I will say, the guy sitting next to you neglected to say that even if takeoffs are 5x more dangerous, it's like 5x .000000001 percent chance of anything happening. Schumer would tell you it's statistically impossible.

Still, I'm with you on this one.
